An Aluminum Case is a box which houses different devices such as a Medical equipment, photoelectric equipment, transportation equipment or any other electronic device. Usually, these devices are connected to each other by a network cable. These boxes are designed to be installed on a rack and they have certain dimensions and characteristics. Let us discuss those characteristics and dimensions.

Rack mount enclosures are available in different sizes and shapes. Most of the time, the manufacturers offer different types of mounting kits which allow you to mount these enclosure boxes easily on a rack. You can see the different types of rackmount enclosure here.

Origin of 19inch

Height: Height of an enclosure box is measured from the bottom of the front face (where the cables come out) to the top of the back face (where the cables go into the box). The height should be between 1U to 4U

Width: Width of an 19inch Rack case is measured from the left edge of the front face to the right edge of the back face. The width should be 19inch.

Depth: Depth of an enclosure box is measured from the front face to the back face where it meets the bottom of the front face. The depth should be between 250 millimetres and 300 millimetres.

Before buying any type of rack, you can choose a aluminum enclosure not a steel stain case.  You should not spend a lot of money on the rebuy a rack case, because it takes several years of use to repay the cost of the rack.
Let us discuss the dimensions of an ideal rack mount enclosure box. It should have height of 1U-4U, width of 200 millimetres to 400 millimetrers and depth of 300 millimetres to 350 millimetres. If you follow these dimensions then you can easily build a good quality desktop rack mount enclosure.

You need to remember that the front face of the enclosure box should have two horizontal rows of mounting holes (for attaching the box to a rack) and four vertical rows of mounting holes. These holes should be between 1-1/4 inches and 2 inches apart. The back face of the box should have four vertical rows of mounting holes. These holes should be between 1-1/2 inches and 2 inches apart. You need to drill these holes before you assemble the box.
Assembling the enclosure box is easy but before we discuss how to do it, let us discuss the different parts of an enclosure box.

There are four main parts of an enclosure box: faceplate, side panels, feet and back panel. Let us discuss each of these parts in detail.

For example D series desktop rack case from YONGU

Faceplate: The faceplate is the part which comes in contact with your cables. It has two horizontal rows of mounting holes and four vertical rows of holes. The front face of the faceplate should be 250 mm wide and the back face should be 250 mm wide.

Side Panels: There are six side panels in an enclosure box. Each side panel should be 250mm long, 2U high and 300mm deep. These dimensions will give you enough room to attach the side panels to the faceplate. Also, each side panel should have four mounting holes. These holes should be spaced  apart. You can see an example of how to drill the holes in the picture below. The part of the side panel which is visible in the above picture has a thickness . But the part which is hidden under the faceplate has a little thickness. This will allow you to easily attach the side panels to the faceplate.

Color And Surface

The color can be selected according to the color number, and then it will be stabilized on the surface of the case after anodization treatment.

The choice of surface also affects the appearance and experience to a certain extent. The sandblasted surface will have a matte feel, while the brushed surface will appear smooth.

Conclusion

Building a rack chassis is not a difficult task, just reday some requirements to meet the case's needs including size, front and rear panel hole design, and most importantly, your design idea, and you can start designing.

Dimension: Width/Height/Length

Structure: Faceplate, Side Panels,  Cover Panel. Also you can add machine feet or the handle.

Appearance: Color, Surface Treatment.
